A magical mouthwash that can save your life is making its way to Canada and a young woman in Nova Scotia is fighting to make it happen.
Mary, 22, is one of the lucky ones.
Her story has inspired people to take action to save lives and help others.
“I have never really thought about saving myself,” Mary told CBC News.
“My mom used to take me out and she would put me in a chair, put me on a bed, put a pillow over my head.”
Then I’d fall asleep and she’d wake me up.
“Mary has been battling seizures and is now at home with her mother and father.”
Mary and her mother are using their money to pay for the medication, a pill that can treat seizure and depression.””
It would have been a really bad thing for me if she hadn’t survived.”
Mary and her mother are using their money to pay for the medication, a pill that can treat seizure and depression.
“She’s going to have to have it injected through her veins and injected into her body,” her mother said.
Mary has received more than $5,000 in medical bills.
She’s also been struggling with depression.
Her mother is hoping for a miracle.
“If you can make it work, maybe she’ll be okay and you can live a happy life, and if not, maybe you’ll find some help,” her mom said.
The drug is not only good for Mary, it’s also helping her family.
“It’s helping us with the emotional support that we need,” she added.
Mary is the president of Mary’s Magic Mouthwash, a company that helps people like her.
She has started a GoFundMe page to raise money to get the drug into her system.
It currently has $2,200.
“We are still in the planning stage of what we need to do,” she explained.
“My whole family is doing a lot of work to get it out to them.
I’m doing my best to make sure they’re able to get this medication.”
For now, she is hoping her parents, who live in rural Nova Scotia, can help her.
“When you hear Mary’s story, it makes you feel so good and you know that you can do something, you know you can save someone’s life,” her dad said.
“And we’re trying to make that happen as soon as possible.”
