A man has been charged with grievous bodily harm after he bit a woman in the head in an incident which left her with multiple facial fractures.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was walking home in the suburb of Goulburn on Sunday morning when she was struck by a vehicle and left bleeding in the road, South Australia Police said.
The man, who was not known to police, fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by a police officer about 15 minutes later, the police said.
Police have released CCTV images of the vehicle involved and the driver of the car involved.
He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
“This man has not been arrested and is being questioned by police,” police said in a statement.
“The victim suffered facial fractures to her upper lip, facial abrasions to her left cheek, and a fractured jaw.”
She is in a stable condition at the Alexandra hospital.
“Police said they were treating the incident as an aggravated assault.”
